By default the account login name is also setup as a 'catchall' email. So anything that gets sent to your domain name you'll get.

The way to disable the catchall feature is login to your control panel under, 'Mail' --> 'Default Address' and set it to: ':fail:'

By setting it to fail you also disable this account too, so if you would like to use the user you need to recreate this account again.

Just take note that the login would be the same as the the emails you created, the full email address.

Disable catchall email but still have functionality with the default account
Ok, I presume you want the default account to work, but not get junk for the catch all.

This a quirky workaround...

For the 'default account' settings, set it to ':blackhole:' --> basically just makes the catchalls disappear.

Then add the same email account.

for example user1 is your main account name. Then add another email account user1 (remember login for his is user1+domainname.com)

As of January 1, 2008, we no longer offer this catchall feature as it is prone to a lot of email spam and dictionary attacks.

Forwarding Mail To Aol And Spam Complaints After several hundred spam complaints from AOL, and some investigating by our staff, we think we have found out the reason for 90% of the SPAM complaints. If you use AOL and have your e-mail from your hosted site forwarded to your AOL address, PLEASE remove the forward. Every time a SPAM e-mail is forwarded to AOL from the hosted account it looks like the SPAM is coming from us, so AOL flags it then sends a SPAM report to us. After so many SPAM complaints/reports, the server gets blacklisted and it is a nightmare getting AOL to remove a server from their blacklist.

How come I cant see my emails when I use the Webmail?
How are you checking your email account? Using the webmail?

Are you using the correct login? A common mistake is using the 'admin' account instead of the other email accounts you created and want to check.

ie,

go here: http://domainname.com/webmail

for the admin account:

login: admin account name
password: your password

for extra created emails:

login: user+domainname.com
password: your password

If you are checking from your control panel, by default the 'Webmail' icon will check your admin account.

If you want to check your email from your control panel for other accounts, goto the 'Mail' icon --> 'Add/Remove Accounts' pick your account --> 'Read Webmail'

I am receiving e-mail but cannot send it from my e-mail client. What do I need to do?
Your ISP has probably turned on an e-mail security setting.

This is a common security setting that affects certain e-mail programs and is intended to prevent SPAM from unauthorized users.

The solution is to try to receive e-mail before you send mail.

If this doesn't work I would recommend changing the SMTP (Outgoing mail erver) to the SMTP server of your ISP
This is the only setting that you should need to change.
Leave all other settings the same and both your outgoing mail and incoming mail will work.

The following is the list of mail servers for outgoing (SMTP) mail server setting:

AOL: smtp.mail.aol.com
Bell: smtp10.bellnet.ca
Rogers: smtp.broadband.rogers.com
Telus: mail.telus.net

- NetZero
- Mindspring
- MSN
- Earthlink
- Flashnet
- MediaOne
- AT&T
- Verizon
- Bell Canada
- Cox

Please contact your provider for a workaround.

Some simple tests you can do.

Open a DOS window, type the following:

telnet mail.domain.com 25

you should get something like this:

220-cpweb3.idig.net ESMTP Exim 4.34 #1 Mon, 21 Jun 2004 10:57:44 -0700
220-We do not authorize the use of this system to transport unsolicited,
220 and/or bulk e-mail.

you can type 'quit' to exit.

telnet mail.domain.com 110

result should be:

+OK POP3 cpweb3 [cppop 15.0] at [216.187.70.170]

you can type 'quit' to exit.

Mainly Its SMTP that would give you errors the first one with port 25. If you dont get that result you will need to contact your ISP and ask them what their SMTP (outgoing) mail server is and use that instead of your domain name.

spam lots of spam.
Let me try to help you and explain some solutions.

When an account is created, the login name for cpanel also creates a corresponding email account. By default, this email also is setup as an 'catchall' account. A 'catchall' account will accept any email address sent to the domain name, therefore, you could make up any name and the email would be successfully sent. This is a big problem for most people if you dont require this.

Yes there are a few things that you can do to reduce spam.

Enable SpamAssassin

Login to your control panel under, 'Mail' --> 'SpamAssassin' and 'Enable'

If you enable 'Spam Box' it collects all the spam. However it does not purge it unless you do it manually, which can cause problems if you dont have a lot of space. We would recommend you to leave it 'Disabled' and the spam will be automatically deleted.

Disable the 'catchall' feature

Login to your control panel under, 'Mail' --> 'Default Address' --> 'Set Default Address'

There is a note the says, 'Hint: You can enter :blackhole: to discard all incoming unrouted mail or :fail: no such address here to bounce it. If you wish to send to multiple address, please seperate them with a comma (,)

We recommend to set it to ':fail:' Then click 'Change' to save.

BUT by setting this feature to ':fail:' you have also disabled this account. If you like to use this username, then you'll need to re-create this account.

Login your control panel under, 'Mail' --> 'Manage/Add/Remove Accounts' and create your new email account.

Take note that your login name is changed now also.

All email accounts that you create, your login name is your full email address.

Just remember that now if you clicked 'Webmail' from the main control panel, the mailbox will probably be blank cause it checks the main account only.

To check the emails you created you can go:

http://www.yourdomainname.com/webmail

OR

Login your control panel under, 'Mail' --> 'Manage/Add/Remove Accounts' --> click 'Read Webmail' beside the email address you wish to check.

Hope that helps.
We are seeing this on a daily basis from our customers. People who could send email yesterday can't send it today. ISPs are blocking third party mail servers to prevent spam through their network. You can confirm by calling up your ISP and ask them if they are blocking third party SMTP port 25.

There are two workarounds:

1. You can change the outgoing (SMTP) port to 26 to bypass ISP filtering
2. You can use your ISP SMTP mail server setting (ie smtp.telus.net, etc)

Why my email is not working?
Here are the steps to troubleshoot and resolve your email issues:

1. Is your login username for the email account as email_account_username+yourdomainname.com? If no, please enter the correct username for the email account. Hint: for mary@domainname.com email account, the username is mary+domainname.com.( For the email account login username, just use the email address and replace the "@" sign with "+" sign) (Remember to replace yourdomainname.com with your actual domain name)

2. Is your POP(incoming mail) and SMTP(outgoing mail) setting as your domain name? If no, please enter your domain name (without mail.yourdomainname.com or pop.yourdomainname.com)

3. If you can receive email but cannot send, then your ISP is blocking outgoing smtp to prevent spamming. You need to contact your ISP for solutions.
